And when Jesus rebuked Peter for his actions he didn’t say “why do you have a deadly weapon!” Or “get rid of that thing” he in essence tell Peter to “reholster your weapon” because it would detract from the mission of Christ being handed over to go to the cross. That was the greater purpose and mission of Christ in the garden. Not self preservation. Although there were other times the religious leaders tried to “take him out” and Jesus seemed to always escape their plan. He had a specific role and timeline for his mission.
But in both old and New Testament you see the mandate to protect from predators in all regards

Yeah that's funny but I bet you would be the first to run. I have been in many hand to hand and hand to weapon altercations and I have seen first hand how cowardly men actually are in just a fist fight.
I believe the guy is a hero. He potentially sacrificed his life to save the masses. I can't see where God would have a problem with that. Like an old Christian woman told my mother once. Even God needs a hatchet man sometimes.
