I've been remiss in starting this thread. But after shooting my 16" in 7.62x54R for the first time tonight, I had to get it going.

Post up your rifles and shotguns!

What a shame these fine firearms aren't importable for now. I've had the 23" in 54R for some time and she does well at 600 yards at CMP with a POSP scope (thanks alleycat alleycat !).

But tonight I fired my 16" that I picked up from a fine ODT member and I still have a grin on my face.

54R out of a 16" barrel at an indoors range was INSANE! Big boom, big blast, and with the PWS brake - surprisingly little recoil - prolly 'cause half the powder was burning in the atmosphere not the barrel - oh dang, need to go clean it, was using surplus silver tip. Be back later, gotta go rinse 'er down.

In the meantime, post up your VEPRs!

I like the aggressive look of the type-2 sights on your 54r, Hayata. Did you try firing it with open sights and if so, how did you like the rear sight ?

Last night was as much a function check as anything else. I did get the red dot close but almost felt embarrassed to shoot it - and that's coming from a guy who has a muzzle brake on almost every rifle - this thing is SICK indoors. The lady next to me jumped and her instructor muttered some obscenities. I think the folks next to me moved over a few lanes.

I went through four or five mags and then let 'er cool down. I did not try the iron sights. I'm not usually a fan of leaf sights but I'll have to give 'em a go next time. The red dot is a Primary Arms and just a cheap AK mount from Amazon.

I'm with you, I like the styling of the type-2 as well. My 23" has the traditional sights with the sight post near the muzzle.

Can't wait to take this one to CMP later this month to see how she does at some distance (I'll use my 8x POSP for that duty).
