The Official ODT Bourbon Club

Not much yet but trying to get into bourbon . Not a fan of the buffalo trace though . Don't know if it's the whiskey taste I don't like or what . I rarely drink , save for a cold beer every blue moon so that could be the problem . Looking to crack that Eagle Rare and Weller soon . Hopefully the Weller will be a little softer on the palate .
I find the Eagle Rare to be very smooth as compared to the BT. I’d try that one next if I were you. But as always, different strokes for different folks. That’s why there are so many choices. In the end drink what you like. And have fun deciding which are the ones you like.

Anyone have any experience with these?

Got roped into a bottle of the 115 by a heavy busted gal at the local dispensary. The thimble sized sample she so graciously obliged was as tasty as those tahtahs appeared to be. I'll crack the seal and report once my jaw returns to it's natural position.

I gave the Eagle Rare a try . It was better than the BT but still kind of offensive and I couldn't really pick up the notes or flavors . Guess I need time for my palate to adjust to the " whiskey burn " . I used to drink whiskey all the time in my younger years but it's been over a decade

Hate to break it to you, but BT is about as basic, plain jane bourbon as it gets. The ER is also a BT product, and you'll find it's even more complex than the Buffalo Trace. The Weller has wheat in the recipe, so it will have an altogether different flavor profile than the other two. Weller is also a BT product. You may find the wheated bourbon more to your liking. Try the Buffalo Trace again with a tiny splash of water or one ice cube. Bourbon/whiskey is truly an acquired taste. Good luck.
Tried the Weller SR . I was able to pick up on more of the nose and palate than the Eagle Rare and most def the BT . It wasn't near as offensive of a "burn " and drank alot easier

Makes sense. Wheat is usually not present in most bourbon mash bills. IDK what the % of wheat is in the Weller, but to me it's very noticeable vs. the BT and ER, and any other bourbons. It's smoother for sure.

Some of you aficionados can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe a rye-heavy bourbon is often described as "spicy" as opposed to more wheat-heavy bourbons, which can be a little smoother and easier to get into. Weller might be a little more accessible to people getting into bourbon than, say, Old Forester.

If the Weller SR tickles your fancy more a few other wheated bourbons I would take a gander at would be Makers Mark, a Larceny Small Batch, and Old Fitzgerald BiB.
