The thing I'm most 'scared' of in the woods....

Just this.

The guy I bought this house from got Lyme disease from a tick. He was a doctor...never hunted or fished. He thinks he got it while playing golf. He was a beginner; and spent a lot of time in the woods looking for his golf ball. He said he often found ticks on himself after finishing a round of golf.

Even knowing what can happen from a tick, I would still have to put snakes at the top of my list of things to avoid in the woods. I grew up in Florida and had a lot of close calls as a kid. Never bitten....but, I learned a healthy respect for them.

Yellow Jackets
Anaphylactic shock kills.
Thought my son was going to die before we got him to hospital. Only thing that saved his life was a bottle of benadryl we made him drink. Still almost didn't make it. Keep a bottle or pills or epipen at your camp. After years of allergy shots he is now immune.
I hate ticks and chiggers too.
Be careful out there.
I am most afraid of idiots with firearms and that's why I avoid public lands.

Tick-borne illness sucks! I got it about 5 years ago. My specialist said it was Lyme Disease, from a Carroll County tick at that. Incubation period is around 2-weeks and the first symptom is usually calf cramps. Joint damage is possible if not treated in time (mine are shot)
I’m allergic to Doxycycline, one of the antibiotics prescribed for it. I had to discontinue the Doxy, got a new prescription and was allergic to it too. Needelsss to say, my experience with it was horrible.
When I go to my lease now, I put Permethrin on clothing, skin covered from head to toe in unscented Skin So Soft and a change of clothing for when I exit the woods.
