The thing I'm most 'scared' of in the woods....

Always spray down. I was diagnosed with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever last summer. I had my left leg amputated in February due to blood clots that my doctors believe were caused by the disease. Its a rare instance that the disease causes clots but there is several documented cases that led to the extreme symptoms I had. So for yourself and family always spray down.
Sorry to hear brother. Forge on. :thumb:

I hate it but good on you for forging ahead! And good luck this season!

oh yeah brother, I don’t let anything stop me from what I want to do. I have had a lot of down time during the recovery but I’m getting a round now. Never thought I would lose my leg at 32 years old but after five weeks in the hospital and seven surgeries later it happened. It’s a thousand wonders none of the clots went to my heart or lungs. All things considered I’m truly blessed to be here.

Scretch owls. I got under one that was in the tree I was under hunting for deer. It was completely dark and I was freaked out a little to begin with. As the Doc said in the movie ( The Thing ) ' I hear things. I hear strange things out here ' . That makes me a little uneasy to begin with. I was trying to relax waiting for the sun to rise. All of a sudden one of those owls went off and I sh**, pissed, puked and belched with a finishing 4 minute fart after that. I vowed the next time I get under a tree in full darkness I will have a set of ear plugs in. Blood curdling scream is all you hear and when you are 20 feet below it, it's a hair raising experience to say the least.

I always cover clothes with permethrin and then wipe down skin areas near neckline, arms etc. I do not want to deal with those ****s. I get in thick once a month scouting, setting stands, filling feeders and have had no issues in years. Brother got into a nest of seed ticks near our camper one time and we were picking em off for days. Them buggers stay in groups and are tiny to see.

let's talk hornets...real hornets, not wasps.

I can't even count the number of times I've come across one and been swarmed. You never get stung once when you do.

Buddy had to get a tick off of his balls on Monday. His wife said your on your own, I'm not about to hold a lighter to your balls. LOL

Reminded me of the movie "My Cousin Vinny", but seriously they are loud even to a deaf guy....

I got my left leg covered in those seed ticks a few years ago. I had to use the edge of the knife blade to remove them. I noticed them right away and handled it immediately and I still had alligator skin on my left leg for a month. Every time I took a shower I'd gross myself out, lol. There were hundreds, if not a thousand and they nailed me immediately. Bad juju!

And again, I remember when ticks were just annoying, now they can change your life.

Sorry for your misfortune brother. I wish you the best this season.

I had a deer tick burrowed in me below my belly button last year. Two weeks went by and I started getting a terrible headache and nauseated around lunch and just felt terrible. I believe if I didn’t immediately call in to my doctor and get them to call me in some antibiotics I would have been in real trouble. But seriously. Hornets. I had a huge swarm come up close to me clearing for a good plot a few weeks back. I never would’ve made it out of the woods if they had gotten me. And of course everyone will think I’m crazy but over 10 plus neighbors have seen two big kitties over the last several years. I never believed my wife when she said she saw one and I had to come escort her out of the woods, but then many people have seen them including my father in law recently.
