Too keep the deer off the expensive landscaping. Since so few can bother themselves to go hunting these days (might break a nail).

BTW- Good thinking on the owner's part to put it against a tree as a backstop for when people and darn kids take a shot at it.

I got three deer that graze in the vacant lot behind me, just on the other side of my back fence. My dogs go bazerk and the deer react to them about as much as this decoy does. So they will stare at my dogs that are freaking out, but avoid this thing?

No one said they were effective (besides getting dumbasses to spend money on them). Its a win-win (deer and marketteers).
