I had never heard of Soap Sally until an old woman wad telling kids a story about her at a park family event.

In my town there is a sign memorializing an old civil war era criminal people called "The Booger Man" aka Tom "Mountain" Clark.

(product of an English, post WW2 upbringing ). When I was a sassy 14 or so I asked my father to name 2 when he preached the "children in Europe" thing and I got a hard rap on the knuckles with his dessert spoon. Didn't ever ask that again .
