Here's incentive to not be lazy.

Plumber quoted me almost $800 to replace my motor for the jetted tub. I need some other things done that I legitimately can't do, so I said throw this job in the estimate.

$800...eff that. Ordered a motor online for $170 and changed it out in an hour. Not much room to maneuver around in there but I got it done. Plumbers wanted to cut an access hole in the bedroom sheet rock also.

Good for you both. As a plumber I am always happy to see diy solutions in areas were the money is limited.

I was surprised that most plumbers in my area won't even touch this job. I think my next option if I didn't do it myself was gonna be to call the pools/spas companies.

Well one of my tub valves had a leak, they wanted to replace all the valves and I was going to change over from chrome to oil rubbed bronze at the same time.

I changed the stems and seals myself...parts were less than $50. I ordered the bronze set for $250 and I'll change it when it gets here.

Total estimate (including the motor) was $2800+. So I reckon I've saved $2300ish. Mind boggling. And really bc I was unfamiliar with this type of labor, I was actually kind of close to telling them "Let's do it." I'm happy I tackled it myself but I'm kinda kicking my own ass for for almost making that mistake.
