Yep same here .
I usually hunt with my crossbow all season long but I learned my lesson again last season when I ran across that record sized black bear too far from my comfort range with the crossbow.
And a couple seasons earlier where a record sized buck with a stark white rack and massive thick tines walked just outside my bow range.
I used my 6.8 spc last year with federal fusion.
I took a buck with it at roughly 80 yards but it did not go through .
The buck dropped instantly and laid down motionless.
I waited a half hour and when I got up to him he took off.
I had to take a head shot to put him out.
This year I’ve got my hands on a savage model 10 BA stealth bolt gun in .308.
Has a vortex viper on it and drives tacks.
It’s got a 0 MOA rail and zeroed at 100 yards.
I’ve got a 20 MOA rail in case I have time to play at the long range.
The crossbow is awesome but sometimes you need a slugger for those longer shots.
Danzig 8mm, because I've never done it before. Grandpa used his 8 all the time.
Nah, but maybe one day the grandson can say it was.
