Thoughts on this safe room build?

Would need to figure out how to lock it from the outside but otherwise looks pretty dang sturdy.

I guess it all depends on how long the bad guys have to open 'er up.

Here's another alternative...

What are commercial bank vaults made of? Wood?

Actually, they pour individual slabs out of concrete reinforced with steel and have harder metals like used drill bits mixed in. The slabs are joined together so the joint cannot be isolated and attacked.

It's one thing to make a storm shelter and another to make a 'room sized safe'. I bet anyone with common power tools could slice open a wood room.

I would go with reinforced concrete. If you want bank level security; mix in a hefty amount of used drill bits with your concrete.

Of course, I feel the better option is a storage location that no one would consider looking for hidden stuff

Good job by Walt - that room could be a bank vault! 8" of concrete ceiling- just laid solid blocks on top of 1" x 6" boards which were attached to ceiling joists

This is the one I did a few years ago.
