Tip Of Knife Question

If you intend to keep the knife in collector condition, very light stone work is all that is needed at the tip. If you plan on using the knife such as an everyday carry, then you can be a bit more aggressive. But, not to the extent some of your followup posters have suggested (some of which can really wreck a good using edge).
Any hardware store or sporting goods store will carry decent stones for keeping the edge in working condition - with a little practice. Get a medium hard stone for general edge dressing. Take the time to learn the skill practicing on an old kitchen knife or such. Then dress the edge on your carry knife whenever it starts to get dull, don't wait until you can see the edge look flat. Remember a dull knife is just a crappy screwdriver with a clumsy handle.
You don't need any gimicky fancy expensive tricked out sharpening system. If you ever head over to the Cabellas in Acworth, I'm close by and would be glad to show you how.
