Tipping: I can't be the only one, right?

Friend gets hot with the manager who swears they did nothing wrong. As we get up to leave I pulled $0.02 out to put on a table as my friend loudly says, "I ain't leaving no tip!" I left my two cents worth and haven't been back.

Probably a good plan to not go back. After that scene, who knows what bodily fluids would be in your next meal there.

The federal government allows restaurateurs to pay wait staff less than minimum wage and we subsidize the rest of their pay. It's not about honoring work ethic or about showing off. I heard Marc Arum doing a whole show on this the other day and it just drove me crazy. People were calling in talking about how they tip tow truck drivers and plumbers and all manner of ridiculousness. Why on Earth would I "tip" a plumber? You fixed the pooper. I paid you. Pound sand. I'm not giving you a tip.

Please tell me I'm not alone on this. :ranger:

I agree 100 %. I only tip for dine in only. And, I tip based on the actual service received. I grade the server on how well they do. An automatic “F” is if I feel rushed, they bring the check without first asking if I am done, if they ask me if I want dessert while I’m in the middle of my meal, or if it’s just bad service. That means ZERO tip.

I actually don't mind either of these things. Bring me the check while I'm still eating? Fine by me...it means I don't have to wait for you to bring it after I'm done eating and ready to go. Same with dessert...if I ever wanted it - and I don't - if you ask me while I'm still eating, then the dessert is ready when I'm done eating rather than waiting for you to put the order in the kitchen after I'm done.

But bring my salad out at the same time as the steak? :tsk:
