Tipping: I can't be the only one, right?

If patrons refuse to tip then those people have absolutely no class! I can't emphasize that more strongly. These people work there asses of for less than a 1.50 an hour and depend on tips for a living. How would you like it if you had an hourly job and worked 4 hours a day for the week and didn't get overtime. Then work you like a dog and have you doing work off the clock.
Servers try there best to get you your food on time and serve you. My guess is you probably go to Olive Garden ( for example ) and send her back for the six bowls of salad, 150 bread sticks, 18 refills on you beverage and eat like freaking horse and complain she is not quick enough and wake away and not tip. Not even realize the strain that you have put on the other customers tables by working her like a dog. Glutens and tite wadds. Despicable! Non tippers are one of the small percent of low to no class people who haven't been cultured and taught manners and respect. If you are not prepared to tip for your service then stay at home. I loath people like that. Giving is one of the best feelings there is unless they are full of greed and avarice.
As a rule of thumb I tip at least 20% if they serve me well. If they're talkative really charismatic and anxious to please I tip more. If they are complete slouch and act like they don't even give a crap about your table I give at least 10%. They are there working and they work for tips. Nothing anyone can say can excuse that kind of behavior of taking advantage of everything a restaurant has to offer and then not tipping the people that are waiting on customers. Utterly ridiculous, insensitive, classlesss and a grotesque lack of concern for your fellow man or woman!
This post was for those who don't tip in general and not aimed any specific person in this form. Names have been changed to protect the innocent.
Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW...when my middle kid moved in with us in 14 she was still in Macon College. So if course everything I said was racist. Fast forward about three years and she had a waitress job in Warner Robins. I don't think I can post what she said here about a black customer without getting a point or worse.
getting a point or worse for your own thoughts...........isn't that a violation of your first amendment rights?

I actually don't mind either of these things. Bring me the check while I'm still eating? Fine by me...it means I don't have to wait for you to bring it after I'm done eating and ready to go. Same with dessert...if I ever wanted it - and I don't - if you ask me while I'm still eating, then the dessert is ready when I'm done eating rather than waiting for you to put the order in the kitchen after I'm done.

But bring my salad out at the same time as the steak? :tsk:
I actually prefer my check while Im eating. When I get done eating I am ready to go I dont want to have to wait on someone to bring me a check, take my card, come back and such.

One thing that grinds me is when they automatically add a tip because you happen to be a group of a certain size. First of all, their performance may or may not have met that mark. Secondly, I won't add to it and chances are they almost always would have gotten much more if they hadn't forced me to tip. Same goes for the ones who automatically add a tip to a to-go order. Yall didn't do **** except hand me my food.

Your post is 100 percent correct. Wait staff depend upon their tips to subsidize less than minimum wage given by the restaurant management. I had to look up Avarice and now I learned what my sisters affliction is.

Same! If they automatically add a tip then that's all they're getting, and 9 times out of 10 we would have tipped more.

In my late 20's I was between jobs and was waiting on a facility to open that I already scored a great QC job. Well to pass the time and get a little pocket change to use I did a 3 month stint at Olive Garden. Hardest job I have ever had by far. Those big trays full of food were hell on the back and my feet hurt so bad I couldn't stand it after the day or night was over.

I used to have old Betty's come in for lunch and they would say we're going to eat light and then have the soup and salad. They would eat four bowls of soup and seven bowls of salad, work you to death and leave $2 for a tip. Also set there for 2 hours and eat. Eating up your table time as if it was a convention.

The problem I found out with waiting tables is it's the hostess job to set the servers in the proper order so that you don't get three tables sat down at the same time all together which is known as ( being in the weeds ). This presents a huge problem for the waiter or waitress. Because two tables have to wait while you are addressing one. So that last table feel like they are not being served correctly. On a busy night that happens almost every time. So I feel their pain and know exactly what's going on and you could have only worked as of server to know exactly what's going on. That 3 months gave me a healthy respect for good servers and to not judge to harshly if one seems slow.

Americans are the most gluttonous people in the world. They're eating and drinking habits exceed the most notorious kings and queens of the days of old. They demand all of it at one time eating like there is no next meal. To tell you the truth to sit back and watch it it's sickening. Then complain only to say they didn't get their food quick enough as if the kitchen didn't have to prepare it. It just magically appears on the tray and you bring it out.

I moved around and lived in five states in
my time and I've known a lot of people. I have only known two people excuse me three people that did not tip. They would eat before they left home just so they wouldn't have to buy their girlfriend dinner on their date. That's what a cheap SOB they were. I mean you actually felt sorry for the girl because she had to buy her own food or whatever where we were. Just so I wouldn't look like a heartless fool I made up the difference making sure to inform the waitress that if the tip felt short my friend didn't leave one dime. I would do that in front of him just to shame them. I detested it so much that if I lost him as a friend I didn't care cuz I didn't particularly care for him in the first place just because of the no tipping deal. Oh how I loathed that behavior so much I would refuse to go out and eat with them after that. This should shed a little light on just exactly what they go through.
