Tipping: I can't be the only one, right?

It's not a big deal, just a little rude to not offer a customer their change. I guarantee you I'd have told her to "keep it." But, because I had a great time laughing and talking with the folks in the room, I really didn't care.

She was doing the best she could in a room full of hu-angry neckbeards. I thought BIKER13 BIKER13 was going to die of thirst before she finally brought his tea. Then, his and Bobby's food was brought way, way after all the rest of us were served. I guess she didn't see Biker13 continually fiddling with that cork on the end of his ice pick.......

They bothered to learn something other than "Ham n' cheese omelette plate! Scattered & smothered! Biscuit instead!"
Funny! When I was in my early “teens” I worked as a dishwasher in a Waffle House. Breakfast shift…there were two waitresses and me washing dishes. We had a killer cook and there was this one waitress that consistently made two to three times what the others made in tips. She was friendly as hell, got her orders right and was the best and staying on top of keeping the drinks filled. She would help the cook, help bus tables, wash dishes or what ever it took to keep the tables flipped. She would always tip me at the end of her shift and non of the others ever offered.

I absolutely refuse to tip anyone, anywhere other than the wait staff at a restaurant. And I honestly don't even like doing it there. "Tipping" is a public subsidy. The federal government allows restaurateurs to pay wait staff less than minimum wage and we subsidize the rest of their pay. It's not about honoring work ethic or about showing off. It's 100% a reminder that the federal government is OK with people being paid less than they should because they can get us to cover the difference in tips....which then becomes taxed twice. Once when I got it and again when I give it as a tip. The whole thing pisses me off.

And so now hair dressers want a tip? Uber drivers? Lawn care guys? The girl behind the register at Moe's? Uh, no...kick rocks, nerds.

I heard Marc Arum doing a whole show on this the other day and it just drove me crazy. People were calling in talking about how they tip tow truck drivers and plumbers and all manner of ridiculousness. Why on Earth would I "tip" a plumber? You fixed the pooper. I paid you. Pound sand. I'm not giving you a tip.

Please tell me I'm not alone on this. :ranger:
always tip wait staff in cash. never on a card. if its on a card they get taxed on it. i have no problem tipping wait staff, it gives them the chance to turn 2 bucks an hour into good money. if they payed wait staff 10,12, 15 bucks an hour.. we would have the same crap we have everywhere else. over payed intitled losers mad that they need to do a good job.

I fished charter boats out of Destin, for 25 years, after running around on deck for 8 hrs plus, baiting your hook, tying your hooks, making sure u didn’t get hooked, or bit by fish, then I would fillet all your fish, stay behind and clean the boat, so a new group wouldn’t have to look at the mess u left behind..what I did made your vacation, or ruined what u looked forward to for a year!..and u don’t want to tip?..after 15 years on the deck, I saved $250.000 to get my own charter boat, and if u didn’t tip and tip right, u weren’t allowed back!..and I would make sure u told all your friends..so there is the opinion from the tipped sector

Hell, I tipped a stump grinder 50 bucks on a 400.00 job just the other day and he was an “owner operator”. He was on time, good, fast, and did a super clean job. I always try to compensate for good attitude and work.

Paid for the stump grinding by check. Tip was cash so he didn’t have to report it.
