Is there a brand of paper that’s safe for septic systems that’s not the John Wayne kind ?

I use angel soft. Doesn't bother my septic at all. Most will work just fine. Use ridx or other similar product monthly to help break some stuff down.

Big pack bulk stuff from COSTCO worked well at our former home on septic. We also used RidX or similar septic system treatment stuff.
