Tornado in Newnan

It looks like a war zone on the NHS side of LaGrange St bridge. Major damage everywhere. My BNL works for Newnan Utilities and went in at 1am and ran a chain saw till 8pm. He has to be back in at 6am. He said most if not all of the Antibellum houses have major damage. Some areas have so many trees down that it will be 6-7 days before they can get roads cleared and power back on.

I also tried to go through Franklin this am, and it looked like the whole town was destroyed. The gas station or at least part across from the Hardee’s was in the rd. The other side of town coming from Newnan looked demolished.

I live in downtown newnan off Hollis Heights. Tornado went over my house. Lucky to be unscathed as well as all my neighbors. Newnan will never be the same. Words cannot describe the carnage that took place. We’ve never had a storm like this before. We had oak trees dating 100+ years old all the way back to the civil war, all were leveled. My folks place off Greenville st. Got 12+ old oak trees downed in their back yard/woods. Estimate 26k in removal costs. Seeing my hometown like this tears me up. Feel like you’re in a twight light zone

Most damage near Newnan High School... my son’s place and his car got wrecked by a tree. I spent about an hour chainsawing my way through blocked roads to get him... we will have to assess damage in the morning. Pretty bad situation for sure!

**** man, I didn’t realize he was down there.... we tried to help everyone we knew, we went and got Blue Alphas tractor at about 1:00a

Greenville was impassable to go get Jason out but around 4:30a we bullied the Newnan PD to let us in the officer literally said **** it, no one knows what’s going. (It probably helped I handed him my phone with with sheriff wood on the screen and was like here call him!)

It also helped driving around with a white truck strobe lights and a tractor!

(FYI we did have permission from the the sheriff)

It was a crazy night, it only provide that we all need a better plan, we hand more access to equipment, we had permission to do whatever we could and it was still a cluster ****.

The PD was definitely struggling... Yesterday morning I had to backpack in fuel/oil/saws because they would not let us get closer than Ruth Hill elementary. ...the community really came together because, later in the day when they stopped blocking roads, we had three groups come by and offer to help get trees cut out of Stephens driveway. We will be back at it today working to get the rest of the salvageable stuff out of his place.

Picture 3/22 in the AJC article: I really hate to see a brick wall like that just fall off like that. The reason is that there wasn't one damn brick tie I could see on the whole thing. When I was building my house, I really had to keep on those brick layers to use that box of ties I gave them. Ties needed every seven courses. Had this wall had them, it would still be standing.

Man, today was madness... so many “volunteers” standing around eating pizza with their kids and posting Instagram Selfies in some areas that we could not get in to get stuff out... sure wish the “volunteers” would at least park at Ruth Hill Elementary or stage and walk it, it sure would help all the residents trying to get in and out.
