Trading firearm for ?

(e.g., unlicensed sellers may only lawfully sell to persons within their own state, and it is unlawful for either licensed or unlicensed sellers to sell firearms to persons they know or have reasonable cause to believe cannot lawfully possess them).

Long gun or handgun, it's still unlawful to directly transfer (sell or trade) to another party who is not a resident of the same state as you. It doesn't matter if you travel to his state, or he comes to yours, or whatever.
Residency counts, not the location of the deal, or where the traded-for goods are titled.
You've got to get an FFL dealer involved on this interstate transaction.

The only difference between handguns and long guns has to do with FFL transfers.
If a handgun, the FFL has to be in the buyer's / transferee's home state. That way, the paperwork shows they "bought it" in their own state of residence.

If it's a long gun, the buyer could come to the seller's state and get it from any FFL dealer there. People are allowed to buy rifles and shotguns in any other state in the country, not just their home state of residency, IF there are no state or local laws against it.
