Trading regrets

Had a Yugo SKS that I let go for peanuts because I thought there was something wrong with it... as I learned a couple years later, I had the gas routed for launching grenades instead of FMJs. That one sucked. I also really miss some of my AKs, and a PS90 that I probably had no business buying in the first place for what it set me back. Handgun-wise, I wish I still had my RIA 1911, my Ruger SP101, my Single Six, and my Tokarev.

I came out of the service in 76 with 2g's (hey that was a lot back then) in my pocket and bought a Remington Woodsmaster 742 30-06, my first big rifle. Rest of the dough I blew and the 742 was in and out of pawn shops for a couple of years but I held on to it. Got married, two kids and a steady job but had to sell it in 82 to buy stuff for the family. (like kids shoes and food) Tried to get it back several times years later but no go. Finally in 07 the guy says he actually still had it and he would trade it back for a .308. Went out and bought a .308,made the trade and 25 years after I lost it I got it back.

That's an awesome story! Great gun too!

Yeah there was just something about getting MINE back. All the rest may one day go but that will hopefully be the one I die with and gets passed on to my son.

I'm a relocated liberal NE Yankee, married to NE hippie. (CPA tho)

Ok -
1) wife gets pregnant, pleads with me to get rid of my guns. 13 years ago, I sold my NIB Gold Cup and my LNIB Ruger GP 100 (?) 357 to my best friend (still to this day) - both for $500. Plus several boxes of Black Talon. And I asked my Dad to hold onto my Remington 22 LR auto rifle (fairly expensive, forget name), my Ruger Security six 357 and my pistol grip 500 mossy. Dad and friend now laugh when I request them back. I have a cop friend in NJ (my home state) who teaches tactical training. 2 years ago I traded my like new sub 2000 40 cal Berretta for a piece of junk maverick 12 gauge and an old single shot 30-06 Stevens.

They were all extenuating circumstances, but I still miss them. Although I have since restocked very nicely thank you.

And Im still very happily married, although my friend says he also is still very happy with my Gold Cup. And after the guns went, the wife gave me the green light to buy a motorcycle. I hadnt had one for 5 years. Which I never used.

No sadder word than "regret". Kinda a strong term for trading something you can buy at most gun shops. Let's talk about some of the girls we dumped when we were younger. You know, the ones who will forever remain 23 in our memories. As we get fat and gray and arthritic. Damn I miss Laura.

Yeah it is not quite the same unless it is YOUR own original! That would be a nice one to pass down for sure and i bet he would be proud!

HA! i better not mention names i cant ever tell who is browsing ;) oh and welcome to the ODT even if you are a yankee :D JK

Okay what guns have you sold or traded off and wish you hadn't.

Oh man, I first thought this was gonna be about the Springfield 1911! But then I remembered your original post title...."Why do I own this thing"? or something along those lines!

Traded my NHM-91 to atljetmech a few months back. In retrospect, I think he won on that deal. Oh well, with all these RPKs and MAK90s running around lately, maybe I can replace it.

Have you fired the "Star Wars Blaster" much? There are a lot of MAK's on here lately. You might not recognize your 'ol NHM.....she's all blacked out and evil now!

Oh the only real trade/sell regret I have is my old Super Blackhawk 44MAG years ago. I kinda rekindled the lost feeling a while back with the addition of a Blackhawk Convertible in 45Colt/45ACP but it's not quite the same!
