Transfer fees !!!!!!!!

So, for anyone curious, I just paid a $40 TRANSFER FEE at a popular gun store near me.

I could have sworn it was $20-25, which is why I originally had it sent there, but alas, I was wrong and now am out far more than I thought I would be. Guess that’s the last time I send anything there or even go there again.

So, you didn’t confirm the price before you sent it, but yet, it's their fault?

I had confirmed it some time ago (late last year/early this year), but it absolutely is my fault for not rechecking. I’m more shocked ANY gun shop would charge more than $25-30. $40 for maybe 10 minutes of someone’s time and no background check needing run? That’s pretty ridiculous.

In fairness to you, if you bought them all at once, it should have just been one flat fee for them all.
Was bought all at once . Sadly , they’d done 4-5 transfers for me in the year before that . Said they had a new guy came on that was managing all transfers . Hence the new charges . Typically when I do a transfer , I’ll drop $100 + buying merchandise . I’m not a cheapskate . I know what they have to do .

A lot of places charge $40 to $50 honestly. The paperwork doesn't take that long, but how long are they required to store it?

I miss CGP and Truprep being free, but $20 is still but that's north Atlanta. I've found south Atlanta and Macon are $30 to $50, with Quiet Riot being the cheaper and some not doing it at all.

Again, insanity. I picked it up barely 24 hours after delivery and any LGS who transfers in firearms for me never has to wait more than 1-2 days.

$20 is reasonable and I’ll never fault stores like TruPrep or Big Woods for that. They’re good LGSs and good people. Their employees have to take time process/intake, plus review my 4473 (no background check as I have my GWCL). The $40 was in Marietta, which is what blew my mind.

I charge $10 for a transfer. That is $10 per form, not $10 per weapon. I can put 3 on a 4473 so up to 3 is $10. More than that requires a continuation form which is $10 more. I can put 25 on a continuation form. If I have to do a background check that is another $10. In other words, if you come in and transfer 28 rifles and I have to do a background check, it is $30. If two or more are handguns then another form, multiple handgun sales so $40 total for 28 firearms including two or more handguns. Up to 3 rifles with no background check is $10.

This is extremely fair. Too bad you're not in my neck of the woods.
