Only possum I shot was because half of its face was eaten off by a form of leprocy.

I dug a post hole 36” deep, threw it in and filled it with concrete.
And took a really long shower.

Just FYI,

Possum eat between 3,000-6,000 tics in a year.

They are the only real predators as far as tics are concerned. They actually seek them out.

They don't eat as many as they're said to eat. A wild turkey will eat that many ticks in a couple months. Opossums destroy ground nests just as much as a raccoon. They need to be shot on the spot just like a raccoon. At least if you want turkeys to hunt or turkeys for future generations to hunt.

If you want to catch coons, use Jet-Puffed marshmallows. My FIL is in pest control and swears by them. Oh, and only that brand; no off-brand.

I put cat food in the bottom of my dog proof traps and smear the cream from an oatmeal cream pie around the rim, seems to work good too.
