Both platforms have their strengths and weaknesses. I'll keep both I think.
The AK is just a rugged, reliable hard punching gun that will shoot every piece of crap round you find laying around. But it lacks the accuracy and versatility of the AR.
The AR is much more precise, modular and modifiable. It's versatile and can be either a close quarters defensive weapon or an intermediate to long range scoped killer. It can also run a conversion kit to shoot 22 LR. This is the most attractive feature to me as a prepper. I can, at need, deer hunt with it but I can drop in a conversion kit and hunt rabbit or squirrel.
I do think I have one more AR than I need and one fewer AKs than I need however. I might need to make an adjustment. lol.
