Weren't those Tennessee armed citizens and homeowners also deer hunters?

Why couldn't they have had a hunting accident and shot those creatures in the yard, mistaking them for deer?

I'm not saying they should've shot them through the lungs, finished them off with a pistol bullet behind the ears at point-blank range, then string Them up by their Nike-clad hooves and gut them, although I wouldn't exactly cry if that were the outcome either.
