Ultralight Hiking Knife Selection For Grown Son: Advice Needed (Edit: Advice Taken, trip going well)

a. Victorinox Cadet is a 2 row 3 1/4 metal knife
with 1 blade, bottle opener/screwdriver, can opnr,
and nail file w/pointed tip. Fits in watch pocket. $20-28

b. Opinel previously mentioned. Wood handle single blade
carbon or stainless. No. 6 is my favorite size (3.5") No.7
silghtly longer, No.8 a popular size too. $10-18

c. Schrade USA Switch-it SW-7 single blade lockback.
Textured Zytel handle OAL = 4 in. EZ to flip open one handed.
Most are half serrated half smooth blade. (SE suffix)
They made a smooth edge for 2 of the 4 years has FE suffix.
Has a belt or pocket clip which pivots side to side for left or
right side carry or clip covers spine so can't press blade unlock
button. I carry mine in right back pocket along outer seam for
EZ 1 hand draw, flick open, ready to cut. Haven't priced them lately
but about 2004 on eBay SE were around $10 and only saw the
FE (fine edge) come up a few times and they went for $25-35.

Lightest weight Opie No.6, , then SAK Cadet, largest Switch-it just a tad more.

Just praying he doesn't get drawn into a vortex now.
