Totally agree with other posters. Their gotta-get-more-money-from-you stupid CC fee is one of the reasons I don't shop there, unless it's a hard to find accessory or holster I can't find elsewhere locally. But it's a bit of a drive for me anyway, which means there's a near zero chance I'll ever go back.

On the north side of town today with time to spare thought I would browse Adventure Outdoors. Ran across a Ruger PC9 on sale - I'll take it - spur of the moment purchase.

Completed the paperwork, at the register to pay. Was asked how I would be paying - debit card - was told there was an additional 3% added for card purchases. I was shocked, never expected that at a major retailer. I wasn't going to pay that.

Cashier stated I signed a customer statement agreeing to the charge, he also stated I could use the ATM machine in the store to withdraw the cash if I wanted to avoid the 3% charge.

I walked out without the purchase, half angry half in a daze. Now I realize that I have several questions I should have asked; however, can someone tell me if that is Adventure Outdoors policy for card purchases?

There are a lot of businesses doing that nowadays.

Not sure what folks are upset about. It's not a 3% 'fee', it's a 3% cash discount. And BTW, a personal check is 'considered cash' there, since I guess there are no processing fees associated with them.

And when you fill out your 4473 there is a second form that you have to check and sign that says the price is the 'cash' price and that they will add 3% for credit. And I also believe there signs to that effect posted around the place, but I'm not sure on that.

As a few folks have mentioned, in stores without this policy you are paying for that fee no matter what you use to pay with. It's also really common to see a CC fee tacked on. Back when I used to have an Amex it was bumped up to 5% sometimes.

I'm not sure what AO is charging for the PC Carbine (the PC9 was the old 90's version), but 3% would be like $12. Is that really a deal breaker? If money is that tight you probably shouldn't be making impulse purchases of guns in the first place.

Never understood the hate for AO.

I never made it much to the old store, because that really was way too much a PITA to deal with, but the new place is no problem. I can only think of one time it more than 15 minutes or so to check out.

Their prices on guns are decent. Not as good as Cherokee, but then again, CG&P doesn't have the same inventory, and AO prices are pretty hard to match when they do a sale. THeir ammo prices are all over the map, but that's every gun store, and they do have some good specials there as well.

The sales people are as helpful as they can be in a large store like that. If you go buy on a rainy Saturday afternoon it may take a bit for them to get to you, but again, that's something you see everywhere.

I've sent 2 guns back under warranty through them (both Taurus) and never had an issue. I've also had them repair a used gun (yes, a Taurus) that didn't work under their used gun warranty. I've also used them to ship guns to out of state FFLs, since they only charge $25 or so which includes the shipping.

Overall it's a pretty decent store, and I would much rather buy a gun there than at Bass or Cabelas. I've heard the nightmare they make folks go through for the privilege of paying MSRP.

Just to clarify DAHLONEGA GOLD AND PAWN DAHLONEGA GOLD AND PAWN does upcharge for using a cc.

And, they have a killer deal on the Ruger PC Carbine right now! Call before you make the drive to make sure they are in stock!

Not sure how Dahlonega Gun got brought into this but I've bought from Ken in past. Hard to beat his prices anywhere.

Tip- if you know what you want and if has to be ordered bc not in stock...they only require a down pymt charge over phone (sorry I don't recall exactly what the required % down is but I Think it's 10% of gun cost). You then only pay 3% card fee on your down pay amount and Not the total price. When they notify you gun is ready for pickup, just take cash for the remainder that's due. One call, reduced extra charge based solely on 3% of down pay amt and 1 trip to pay remainder in cash when pick it up. Don't know of any other LGS that can beat their total prices and this transaction process if ordering by phone
