USFL. Anyone going to watch?

Wow, time machine stuff. I was in Kolij (college) in B'ham when the original USFL started (and ended) in the 80s. The Birmingham Stallions (they reused the name? must've been cheaper) got to the finals against Tampa (some pirate themed name).

Student tickets were free or dirt cheap. Beer was cheap too, and for that reason I don't remember much except yelling "No way Tampa Bay! No way Tampa Bay".

Trivia: I think they used the name Stallions as Bham had just opened the horse racing track, which also closed after several years. The slogans for the horse track was "Pick your nose".

Such witty advertising!
That would be the Tampa Bay Bandits... Burt Reynolds was a general partner.

Burt Reynolds and Loni Anderson were both at the opening Bandits game back then.

I have quite a few memories of my Grandfather taking me to Bandits games back in the 80's. A horse and rider would gallop around the field at half time.

Didn't realize they were starting back up. I'll have to take a look. During their initial run, it was quite common for the Bandits to outdraw the Bucs...
