Vintage Rifle Matches - Which Rifle?

The CMP has a VINTAGE RIFLE MATCH...You can only use a US Krag or M1917 or a Foreign Military Bolt Action Rifle in original configuration.

I know from reading the scores of the competitors out there that a Swedish M96, Swiss K31, and M39's seem to top the list...

Of the 5 rifles listed which do you prefer?

Me: I am digging the Krag because it has a lower yet accurate cartridge. BUT to win I think it may take a K31 or M96.


What do you like or dislike about the rifles above? Sights? Caliber? Ergonomics? Ammo Availability?

Am I missing a very ACCURATE rifle? Maybe a K98?

I would guess the 1917 because it has a peep sight but just a guess.

Love my K31's but not a big fan of the leaf sights.

Cool, that makes sense.
I love the ww1 rifles but i find it diffcult to shoot small targets with those leaf sighs. Those beauties were built to hit man-sized targets.

Big fan of the K98 in terms of accuracy....very accurate gun. Doesn't get as much love as the M96s and K31s

I like the K98 Pattern rifles. I would think the MOST accurate would be a YUGO rework. Since they re-barreled them.

The best one i've shot so far is an Israeli k98. Very straight shooting .308 conversion but a tiny rear leaf sight

French MAS with some hand loads will devastate your competition. Plus whooping ass with a French gun is just as good as poring salt in their wounds.
