Checked the pound and craigslist, I know it sounds messed up but was not interested in anything at the pound or at the humane society. I am looking for a fairly large dog in puppy form that can grow up with my wifes cats and grow to love and protect my two daughters and my house.

A lot of small dogs at the pound and the humane society, but I did leave my number and told them I was interested in any large family dog/guard dog.

Man I was just in your shoes. The best pound, by far, was the Cherokee County pound. Extra clean. Good animals. We picked up a very young (5-6 week) Rotty/Shepherd female there for 75.00. All shots and spade.
You can also use petfinders.com to help search.

I got about 3 valid offers from Craigslist and about 40 scam offers.
Good luck with your search.

I might be able to help you out. I have 4 week old boxer puppies. I have one of the dogs that the person taking it keeps backtracking because of his wife. I will keep you updated if he tells me no. no fee required. There was a poster here selling a cute white boxer for 250 i believe.

I have an 8 yo Boxer and just got a new Boxer pup, I can't begin to tell you what great family pets the Boxers are. They are big enough to guard the house and family without being too big and have a very laid back disposition. Mine has never shown any aggressive behavior in 8 years, he is however very protective.
Boxers are not "barkers", mine only barks if he decides something is really out of place. They don't shed clumps of hair everywhere. (my wife loves that)
My favorite Boxer attribute is they have a personality more like a person than a dog.

My mom breed dachounds and has a female pup ready to go should you be interested. AKC registered parents, good health and great personality. I know it wasn't on your list of breeds but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Awesome, awesome dogs. They don't have quite the intimidation factor of the dogs he listed, but they're very smart.
