Watch those Loading Habits

Yikes!

and that reminds me!

I was at the range this weekend with another ODT'er when I had the first hang fire ever!
Shooting a 325gr HSM Bear Load out of a .454 Ruger Super Redhawk.

Don't you know that was exciting! :becky:

Hammer drops, primer pops, I get sprayed in the face with some little stuff, I'm still holding the gun on target and 5 seconds later the cannon goes off.

(Seemed longer than 5 seconds to me, lol.)

No damage to me or the gun, just a scare.
WEAR THOSE SHOOTING GLASSES!

(It could have been a whole lot different if that crud that flew back hit me in the eyes when I was still trying to control the gun.)

That's about as bad as I have ever seen in a revolver, the top strap is totally gone.
I would guess a very fast burning powder that was double charged, but you never know.
Big volume case with a fast burning powder!!!

i always seat bullets right after charge. slows the batch loading down a bit but makes it difficult to double charge. I've doubled more rifle rounds than i care to count going the batch load method. fortunately case fill in 308 is pretty much a nogo for doubles.

as for the gun, i would be curious what powder and the case fill. ive seen flashover before and it looks a lot like this.
