Well, this kinda sucks!

just been admitted to Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, I’ve been having a problem with a seeming infection at the site of my implanted defibrillators. It has sorta baffled my doctors as it has been extremely random in showing up. The area around the scar would get red and kinda sore for a day or two, then it would go away for days and sometimes several weeks before appearing again. I have been examined by my cardiologist, my defibrillator/pacemaker dr, and even an infectious disease specialist without making much progress. Been on antibiotics for over two months. Wednesday morning it was red and sore again then that evening it started weeping fluid. Yesterday evening it ruptured and started draining some nasty looking stuff. I went to my local urgent care about 7:30pm and the doc there strongly recommended I see my ID doctor today . He now has admitted me to the hospital (in the cardiac observation unit) for some I V antibiotics, observation and possible removal of this defibrillator. Been expecting to have this replaced due to the battery nearing depletion but this may speed things up a bit.
Anyway, that’s what’s going on so a prayer would be greatly appreciated
Thank, Mike
Hope you have a speedy recovery.

First of all, thanks to all for the prayers and well wishes!
Now to update a bit further, they are unable to get the schedule worked out between the surgeons (basically have to have an open heart surgical team on standby when the defibrillator and leads are removed in case they accidentally pop an artery) so it looks like it may be next week for the surgery, which kinda sucks, but the upside is I’m probably going home until then! Which is great! Of course I’ll still be on antibiotics until the surgery but I would much rather be lounging at home than the hospital.

Hang in there Mike, we're all praying for you.
If you can sneak out the Black Bear tavern across the street has a mean burger and cold beer.
Keep us posted and good luck.

I’m rarely seen without one, gotta keep some of the ugly covered up if I can!

I’m back at home now (thank you Lord!) just waiting for them to get everyone scheduled. Hopefully they can do this the end of next week. I’m going to have a very busy month, got cataract surgery on my left eye next Monday the 16 th, go back to the ID doc on the 18th, maybe this surgery Thursday or Friday of next week, then cataract surgery on my right eye Dec 30th. Then when the infection is gone they will replace the defibrillator. So keep me in your prayers!
Thanks to all, Mike

Mike,
I said a prayer for you and the surgeons, wish I could do more! Just remember we are here when you need us and please keep us up to date with how things are going...Phil
