What are the point of dreams?

Dreams are something else. I dreamed about an old girlfriend awhile back, all the good times we had. When I woke up, I had a terrible dread feeling like she had passed. It's haunted me some, haven't seen her in over 40 years. How can that be interpreted ?
Google her.
I just today decided to check on some of the kids I grew up with... all dead....
Bummed me out so I quit.

That was your youth. Great while it lasted.

One of the most common dreams I remember psychologists discussing was a person suddenly finding themselves naked in a public place before everyone, but they could never explain their theory on why someone would dream that. Thanks.

I have a recurring dream where I’m driving down a road and the skeleton ghost of Elvis in a white wedding dress is following me on a Harley. I slow down but he won’t pass me and if I speed up he speeds up. I can see him in the rear view mirror but he’s gone if I look back. Not scary just a freaky kind of weird.

Why do we dream or have nightmares when we sleep and what’s the point to them? I’d really like a solid nights sleep and not be woken up by crazy as hell dreams
I’ve never had either if I have I just don’t remember them!
But yes, I have woke up to a couple of scary women before! Does that count?

My wife says I kill, steal, and pillage in my dreams. She said she can’t remember how many times I have screamed in my sleep “MFer I am going to kill you” or other obscenities and violent things. She said it scares her sometimes. Yes, I have been diagnosed with PTSD. No, I don’t take meds.

I had that dream once, but then I realized it wasn't a dream, it was 15 shots of Tiquila and the Bar tender was screaming at me and telling me the Cops had been called..
