One Second After by Willliam Forstchen. It's a great book about what happens after an EMP hits the US. The book is very realistic and it's setting is in western North Carolina.

Reading the Home series for a 2nd time by Angry American. My wife is also reading it for the first time and it sparks many excellent conversations between the two of us.

ETA - Last book I finished before this was Hombre by Elmore Leopard. You can buy a bundle of his Westerns in one purchase.
