What are your thoughts on this story?

I have very mixed feelings about the victim. He either did very good or real bad, it's hard to tell from the article. I would like to see the video. JR

Hahaha I can see the headlines now...Man shot and killed by a ccw holder! Victim only had a toy gun! You guys think the world gives a sh** if you knew it was an air gun or not. The way things are right now I hope I would have done the same thing. These are fragile times. Regards.

I disagree. It boils down to motive. There are some genuinely bad people that are equal opportunity criminals and then there are some that hate various groups of people, racial, sexual orientation, etc. The crime itself isn't different but the motive is. Same way that pre-mediated murder is worst than regular murder. At least thats my take.

No 'hate crime' law is needed to consider such.
Motives should ALWAYS be considered in EVERY case, not mandated in only specified ones.
Ever heard of equal rights?
You dont make things 'equal' by singling out only specific groups for special consideration.

Such laws as it stands now if taken back in time to the 1940s would in essence read....

"Any white person entering a colored only restroom shall pay a fine of $25"

"Any black person entering a white only restroom shall pay a fine of $250"

In the 1860s it would have read...

'Any white person killing a negro slave shall be fined up to 1 dollar for making a public nuisance and littering."

"Any negro killing a white person shall be hanged. And any negro present during such a killing shall be whipped and imprisoned for a period of 5 years"

Its a very dangerous and slippery slope...and a miserable failure...just like 3 strikes laws.

Straight bizarre, there is something missing here in this story.

I found a report from the Miami Herald saying that it was an airsoft pistol, both seem to indicate it was a CO2 variety.
Herald also mentioned that the attacker was a felon and carried the CO2 pistol because he had no gun rights.
Also said that the victim had his carry permit for five years.
Interesting to note that he had planned what his girlfriend should do when presented with a threat.
A great deal of restraint and forethought as to both their actions.
Both valuable when potentially confronting someone with deadly force.
