While an elbow shot would be tempting, I would refrain from discharging a firearm in the city limits... I also live inside a city in Gwinnett, and I have wondered about this myself... really the night-time is my only concern. I've decided that my best option is to keep my dog in the fenced area of my property at night.

Check with your Local law enforcement.
Most counties will let you discharge a firearm if protecting yourself or your pets....unless the county is major gay or none of their elected Officials have had their own personal pets or themselves attacked and shredded by predator animals yet.

Me personally.....I have a crossbow with a red cree led light attached on standby for just such things.
