What happened to the Barbers?

Last time I got a haircut you could still get one at one place in town for three bucks. Old guy. If he dropped the comb might take him a few minutes to get down to pick it up.

That sounds like Mr. Joe he was around Mableton/Austell but I'm sure he's retired now. Hell I've been out here 16yrs now and the last time I got a cut from him was probably 2000 and Mr. Joe was probably 80-85 then he was a good Barber but said his hands weren't steady enough to shave people anymore. I sure do miss that good old man.

Marry a woman that can cut your hair. I have not paid for a hair cut in 10 years. She cuts my hair every 6 weeks, I like to keep it short.

I drive 15 miles to get my haircut from an older real barber who charges $10. When I work out of town, it becomes a pain just to find a barber shop, especially one that can cut a flat top.

Whats up with the lack of Barbers in Atlanta?

When I was growing up in CT and MA, there was a barber on the corner. Pizza place, Liquor store, local grocery, barber, all in a line.

I used to pay $11 bucks a haircut, and the Sal raised his prices to $13, and then $17 (this was 2007). My Dad still goes to Sal. Sal didnt wash, he didnt take appointments, you came in sat down and waited your turn. He cut your hair, and you got to bull**** with Sal for 10 minutes. You got up, paid and left, said g-bye to the other 3-4 guys waiting. It was on the way home, so if there wasnt a line, score, you grabbed a quick haircut.

I cant find a Barber in ATL to save my life, had to go the f-ing salon and paid $60. Some hot chick give me a shoulder massage (wtf?) and then washes, and cuts and dries. Not saying I dont like a hot chick rubbing my shoulders, but I dont really need to spend $60 unless she's giving me a lap dance too.

Where have all the Barbers gone? What do you guy do?

You must live on the effeminate side of town. :mullet:

I've used the same barber shop at Windy Hill and Paces Ferry for 25 years, old school and most are third and fourth generation barbers. Exactly what you described and the shop is aptly named "Barber Shop".

None of those sissy salons for me; real men go to real barbers. :biggrin1: They are still out there, but you have to hunt for them.

I bought a hair buzzer with guard set for $20 5 years ago and have not had to pay for a haircut since.

Just throw on a number 5 and let a rip.

I have a S-I-L who has a shop. (In PA) I mentioned to her about this exact topic. There are very few barbershops in that area as well. I told her she should change here "Beauty Shop" to a Barber Shop. She said why? I'd have to go back to school. I didnt know barber school and cosmetology school werent the same?? At least for license in PA.
