Well, the engine came to life today. Sounds really good. Should be able to bring it home next week and begin the fine tuning. Looks like I may need a good Quadrajet rebuild guy. Graphics go on next week too.

As much as there is to knowing the rebuild, the set up is just as important on a Q carb. Getting the choke just right is important. Setting the pump arm, setting the idle screws, ect.
Make sure you have someone experienced in this. An old skewl mechanic that has done a thousand of them like i have. My suggestion is the same as it was in the first few posts of this thread.....GET A CARTER AFB 700 -750 cfm with auto choke. Put that quadra-junk on the shelf. You will thank me for it.
Edlebrock/Carter - same thing except for name plate. Carter makes the Edlebrock and puts the name plate on them.

Check it out.... you will save a ton of headache and have a sweet smooth running carb you wont need to screw with a whole lot .

OK, so you got me listening. Which one will work for my engine? Also, will it be a PITA to make the correct height to make my breather and hood scoop work? Is there much difference in the throttle linkage?
I am old and don't do computers well, so if you have a link, I would appreciate it. I guess that Summit would have it.

Unsure which one would work on your motor. I am a small block Ford guy. I used to rebuild Holley's back in the day and always had to tweak tweak tweak. I listened to a motorhead buddy of mine who recommended the Edelbrock. On 3 different Mustangs I installed the Edelbrock, tweaked it in and they ran the same for many years. Yes, you may get a little more performance out of a Holley or Quadrajet, but they require constant tweaking. For a street car, you can't go wrong with an Edelbrock.

Picked up the car today. I have quite a few things to tweak, but nothing too major. It sure is pretty. Graphics are scheduled for next Tuesday. Got to bleed the brakes again tomorrow, and find a wiring short in the taillights.
