If I lived in a state that had an assault weapon ban but I could have a lever action rifle that used a high capacity detachable magazine, I would be all over that. Ugly or not. Assuming it worked and did not jam.
Yes I would want to have a rail for optics on the top. And some provision for mounting a tactical flashlight or laser unit on the fore-end as well. Yes, I'd want the stock to be somewhat adjustable I'd make it shorter in the length of pull if I were wearing body armor or hunting on a winter night wearing a heavy coat,
but I'd want the stock to have a longer length of pull if I were shooting prone or from the bench rest in normal clothing.
