Krebs makes the finest AK ive ever owned. Rifle dynamics is solid, but krebs really has much better quality since RD has expanded. I have owned both.
Bulgarian kits are great quality
Mak 90's are solid
Vepr's are bulletproof
Meridian Defense has fantastic AK's as well from what i hear.
Some guys here build really nice AK's as well from kits. There is a Tula 74u kit for sale on here that would be a legit investment as well

4) Chinese
5) Yugoslavian (pre barrel ban import days)
6) Hungarian
7) Egyptian
8) Romanian
The top five are separated by a margin so thin I would hate to have to live on the difference.
Last a Long Time:
Any of the above with an original commie hammer forged chrome lined barrel will still be rocking on when you are long gone.
As Always, YMMV.
Edit to add: If you want to ride the elevator all the way to the basement then any of the various American made AK Look-A-Likes. But remember in a day when a decent AK starts at $700 retail, a $500 American made AK will deliver exactly what you paid for it!
