Good day ODT Community! In all of y'alls opinion, what's the best pistol cartridge for self defense? Whether it be a break-in or what you carry in your pocket/holster, what suits you the best and why?
It is different in a calibers and weights. What's good in a 9mm may not be so good in another caliber. What clogged in jeans may bee better in another weight. Etc
What ever you have on you at the time. I carry .380, 9 mm and .40 at varying times. Any firearm beats a knife, mace or strong language. Just carry with quality ammo and don't get hung up on semantics.
....whatever you can shoot proficiently, and accurately when under pressure.
Might be a 380, maybe a 9mm or 45, but nothing will do anyone any good if it's too big or uncomfortable to carry....or if one can't hit the broad side of a barn with it.
I read an article years ago from a detective that collected data from hundreds if not thousands of crime/police scenes. The data which I'm summing up there was no marginal difference in caliber unless shot in the head. People will take just as many steps towards you from a 380 to a 45 if shot in the stomach up to chest. So I would say whatever you are a better shot with. I have a judge bedside and carry a small 9mm.
