What is the best way to make sure you're not buying a stolen gun on ODT?

Seriously? I mean I think it's great they are willing to do this, but doesn't the PD get pissed off for people calling on matters that aren't actual situations? I mean that's a call that could've blocked someone that's actually calling for a serious matter that might be life or death. Do you actually dial 911 or call the office? I'm just curious.

If a priority call comes out, the officer can leave the non-emergency call and handle the "situation".

Ah yea, I suppose that's always right. I guess I just don't want to waste their time, but then again I haven't traded for many guns, just one actually.

Ive traded a LOT! Look at my feedback  The same officer comes out. If they are busy they tell me he will be out when he can. They are always nice about it. Its not a waste of their time either. Its their job.

Gun trading is sketchy, someone may pm for SN for simply running the numbers, others may report it stolen and scam you out. Getting one that was stolen and gets confiscated puts you at a loss,

On a note about running a serial number,

Just because it does not come back stolen does not mean it is not. It just means it has not been reported stolen using that serial number.

I have taken hundreds of reports on stolen items and the people do not have serial numbers for anything.
how do you run it? isnt that something that has to be done through the police. id love to find a website that has that information to the public

I dont run it myself. There is ways to legally have the numbers checked. Its all in how you articulate it.
its also a good way of getting yourself into hot water

i dont buy from folks i think that might sell me a stoeln gun, other than that i try to keep it away from the police regardless, cause frankly they dont care who they arrest i get the feelin

Please enlighten all of us as to exactly how one might "articulate" having the sn run.A deputy friend informed me that if he ran the items sn and it came back as stolen he would confiscate it on the spot.
If we can do it for the public then we can do it for our self. How could one be illegal and the other not? Where it would be illegal is if I ran the numbers on my ex's boy friend gun just to try to catch him breaking the law or something like that. Matter of fact we run tags, livense and items we own as practice for NCIC training. And yes if it was stolen there would have to be a full report made and the gun returned to the rightful owner.
