What is the cheapest/best way to reserve a domain name?

I bought our domain many years ago. I found our last name available with a .us suffix.

I went through GoDaddy and just followed their procedure. In less than 5 minutes I owned it and nobody can ever have it, unless I default on paying for it.

I usually pay the fee for 2-3 years at a time so I don't have to remember every single year.

There might be cheaper or easier options, but I found GoDaddy to be very simple and easy to mange. I now have e-mail addresses for all of our immediate family to use. Everybody has "first name"@the"last name" .us

It works great for us.

I've used Namecheap for over a decade. They always offer coupon codes and they may not be the cheapest around (I don't bother to check prices) but I've always been happy with their service. I also have hosting through Namecheap. Pretty good and cheap for what it is. If you decide to go with them, current discount code is Warmup.

I just bought a domain on the 19th and total cost was $9.84 after coupon code.
