The color seems a bit dark, but stressed out grunts would be my guess.

What pier are you fishing at?

Grunts would make sense because of the grunting noise they make. We're at St George , caught a mess buy they were all small so I tossed em back. Trying again today

McDonald's straws (red and yellow stripe) I cut them in half and then slice one end up into a skirt...sliding sinker and a treble hook...I caught a 12 pound King Mackerel off the jetties in Destin/Ft Walton one time with a McDonald's straw jig. I had run out of squid and shrimp and was walking back to my car figuring I was done fishing for the day and spotted a lid with straw washing up into the rocks...

Those are croakers. Some folks eat em. I would use them for bait.

Fishing off a pier in Florida and I don't know anything about saltwater fish.I suspect it is a trash/bait fish
