I picked up a couple lots of surplus military brass. While cleaning and processing brass I found this oddity. It's straight wall with a taper. It's heavy.....the bottom third of it feels like there is either some sort of insert there OR it may be solid brass. Inside the top rim it has a ring with little brass fingers. Measurements:
OD at the top = 0.445"
OD at the bottom (ahead of rim) = 0.487"
OD, rim = 0.598"
Rim thickness = 0.0485"
Overall length = 1.9385"
ID at the top = 0.3975"
Depth from top edge to bottom of case (blocked by whatever is in there) 1.2550"
I figured this may be either a blank or some sort of special purpose round like a flare. Looks like it uses a large rifle primer.
