What kind of baby snake is this?

my pregnant sister called me freaking out - husband out of town and snake in her garage. I go over ready for battle, only to find a 10" baby snake.

Used BBQ tongs to remove it from garage and release it down the street, but was curious if anybody knew what type of snake it was. It's head wasn't triangular like a copperhead, but I've made noises around banded water snakes and they fled. This baby almost went into a defensive fighting stance.

I can't really tell what kind it is, but if there is one baby snake, there is at least a dozen more close by. Don't tell your sister that though.

Appears to have a bit more amber/copper coloring than a gray rat snake?
