What kind of bird is this?

Is it normal for them to be this far away from the beach?

my been blown in by storm up the coast or migrating and got lost

I took a look at the pic of a sand piper and they are fatter and legs are not quite as long..I am not sure what it is.

DD I think it's in the same family as the sandpipers but I'm not sure exactly what kind.

Many of them change their plumage significantly throughout the year so it's hard to say (to this uneducated novice).
