What kind of tree is this?

If I decide it has to go...is there much demand for the wood from the BBQ folks? It's a very large tree......

Hickory, good smoking wood but rough on a lawnmower

Wait until you try sawing, planing, or jointing...it will smoke most carbide blades in two shakes. If you stop a cut...half a shake or less.

They might; A close relative of the Hickory is the Pecan (pronounced pee-can)

Didn't think of a hickory. The seeds I see online look the same as what I have. Hate the seeds in the yard, since they sound terrible when I have ridden over them with the lawn mower.

There are many similarities between the Hickory and Hackberry but I believe this is a hickory from the looks of the bark.

Yeah, that's a hickory. You can tell by the bark patterns. Oak is striated like that but goes vertically. On a hickory, while it looks similar, the striations intertwine diagonally. The hickory nuts are a dead giveaway but without leaves and nuts that how I always tell the difference. Not an expert or anything but thats what I was taught to look for.
