What rifle was this surplus case for?

It is thick and fleece lined it doesnt really seem like a surplus rifle case but it has US stamped on it. What year and what rifle? I got it with an Italian carcano of all things and am just curious any help is appreciated.

amazon has modern reproductions, us rifle accessories are reproduced like crazy making it hard to find originals

the thickness of the fleece should tell whter it's original as the real deal has thicker fleece, but first you need a verified original to look at
 
You didn't state the length of the case... I have seen hundreds of them for the carbine... have never seen one for a Garand... so they probably make one for its length too...
