What should i know before buying first diesel truck? Should i even buy one?

I've thought of going diesel as well, but since I don't tow frequently it just didn't make sense for me. If it's a daily/casual driver that tow's from time to time, it really just comes down to a want rather than a need.

If your current gas truck is in good condition, it'll be a whole lot cheaper to just change to steeper rear end gear, upgrade suspension components to HD stuff and put in a good transmission cooler. Heavier duty towing tires wouldn't hurt either.

Unless you are buying a single cab w/t…. $15k won’t do it for something reliable long term. I drive a 07.5 Duramax CCSB with cloth interior nothing fancy. Maintenance is more costly than gas.. fuel is more costly… tires wear out quicker… I do enjoy maintenance and driving it though.
