For my son-in-law...Ft. Jackson, Ft. Benning, Ft. Drum, West Point, Ft. Benning, Ft. Bragg, Ft.Iraq, Ft. Djibouti, Ft. Carson, currently deployed in a country in which we have no US soldiers.

Ft. Jackson, Summer 1983. I swear there was frost on the ground on the 4th of July when we ran PT.
The barracks were "old Hollywood", tank hill was fading away if I recall correctly.

When I ETS'd I went through Ft Jackson again. The senior drill instructor at "old hollywood" asked me to give a "stirring speech, like 'Patton' " . He wanted to impress on the youngsters that they could succeed in the Army and that we DID make a difference.

George C Scott could probably have done better, but, hey, I brought down the Berlin Wall!

Yep. We were down in the new barracks (C Company) in winter 85. Tank Hill was to be de-comissioned soon after. Funny thing, I ran into an old BF from high school in the chow line when they came down to eat as our mess hall one day. Couldn't believe it. He wound up in Alaska. Small world.
