I'm still amazed by the low end **** that gets counterfeited. I have a set of fixed rifle sights I bought on eBay for under $20.00 a few years ago. When they arrived I saw "Daniel Defense" on one side of the rear sight. Now that wasn't in any of the pics when I looked at them. And I assume the chances of them being legit are some fraction of a percent. I wouldn't have bought them if I had seen that ahead of time and I ain't bought anymore or anything else from that eBay seller.
But I hear about knockoff Magpul stuff as well as other brands all the time. How cheap does a knockoff have to get to make it worth it? And how can it be worth it to the ones making/selling it?

Yeah, I've bought a few Ebay items that didn't show as counter fit just to arrive with branded fakes. I've sold them with full disclosure as fake or for airsoft.

I've also bought fakes just to see what thw difference between real and fake are. Seeing them side by side, usually makes it easier to tell the difference later when shopping.

Years ago there was a Netflix short series I believe called Dirty Money. One episode was all about the counterfeit goods market. This one kid in NYC made a damn good living actually making knockoff jewelry especially the Big gawdy hip hop chains and watches. So this one guy met him for a deal on a fake Royal Oak or maybe Rolex and paid like $5K for it. He acted like that was a bargain price. Well maybe if it was a legit watch and stolen but it was 100% FAKE. And I don't care how good the fakes get it's STILL a fake and not worth ANY of MY money. But then again I'm old and white and not tryna' be a fake ass baller.
But to your point of wanting to see how good takes get yes, it's very interesting to watch the videos comparing the real Rolex and Omega models to the knockoffs. They get better and harder to tell everyday. Hell Panerai had a knockoff pic posted on their Instagram a while back because nobody could tell. But even if it was free I couldn't look down at my wrist everyday and know my watch was fake.

Heck, I've seen legit store front businesses sell fake CAT-T and not even know it. They got in sole trouble for it, as their usual clients were LEO/First responders but they fixed the issue and leanr3d from their mistakes.

How pathetic.
