Curious if anyone can estimate the value of this pistol?

If it were mine, I would definitely spend the money and letter it. Lots or unknowns that impact value without the letter from Colt.
 
The letters will show you what, if any, information the factory has on any given firearm. There is a cost but it depends on several things. Here is the link to their landing site: https://www.colt.com/page/archive-services

With a gun like this, it could add a lot, or not so much, to the value of this gun. If it was a master Colt engraver who “signed” this piece, the value goes up. If it left the factory unadorned with these “scratches,” it is likely worth a lot less. Bear in mind, Colt was in the business of producing firearms - not filling archives with minutia. They may have no info at all on a piece. Hope that helps...
